Study indicates that nanoparticles cause brain damage in fish

Posted by info Tuesday, September 20, 2011 0 comments
http://images.gizmag.com/hero/fishnanoparticles.jpg

In just the past few years, nanotechnology has brought technological advances in almost every field imaginable - patches that regenerate heart tissue, water-powered batteries and better biofuels are just a few examples. As with just about any new technology, however, concerns have been raised regarding its safety. We've never experienced anything quite like it before, so how far should we trust it? According to a recent study conducted at the University of Plymouth, the answer to that question might be "Not very far." In tests on rainbow trout, titanium oxide nanoparticles were found to cause damage to the brain and other parts of the central nervous system.
Titanium oxide nanoparticles are used in a number of applications including paints, vitamins, personal care products such as sunscreen and cosmetics, and possibly soon in food products. After being subjected to these nanoparticles, the trout developed vacuoles (holes) in parts of their brains, and some of their brain cells died. Although past tests on cell cultures and other in vitro systems have suggested possible harmful effects of nanoparticles, this is reportedly the first time that such effects have been confirmed in a live vertebrate.

China to build giant buses allowing cars can drive under

Posted by info Friday, September 16, 2011 0 comments
When we talk about China, usually there is a degree of preassumption about the Chinese copying one thing or another from other countries, but not this time. The Shenzhen Huashi Future Car-Parking Equipment have come up with a concept bus and I quote a “3D Express Coach” which will help relieve some of the traffic congestion that are often experienced in busiest parts of their cities. The concept is like no other. It will enable cars to literally drive under it.

It is 4-4.5 m high with two levels: passengers board on the upper level while other vehicles lower than 2 m can go through under. Powered by electricity and solar energy, the bus can speed up to 60 km/h carrying 1200-1400 passengers at a time without blocking other vehicles’ way. Also it costs about 500 million yuan to build the bus and a 40-km-long path for it, only 10% of building equivalent subway. It is said that the bus can reduce traffic jams by 20-30%.
Think of the actual bus as like a skytrain on a tramline. One thing is for sure, this bus won’t get in your way and it won’t look anything like the buses you’ve seen in any other country and drivers can be sure to feel disorientated when they drive under it, much like driving through a tunnel. Check it out in the video below, translation can be found just beneath it thanks to the folks at Chinahush…

French Company Unveils Fashionable Watercraft Concept

Posted by info Thursday, September 15, 2011 0 comments
EXO, from French company EXOCONCEPT is an amazing concept that lets you travel on the water like a super surfer. It was unveiled at the Cannes Boat Show and is similar to Silveira Group’s Green Samba, a prototype electric watercraft. The EXO has a maximum speed of 31 miles per hour and can cruise along the waters without creating a load of noise. It has a chic and futuristic design which takes your breath away. It is very important for you to make sure that you get what you want and that you have all that you ever require.

This watercraft is one such thing that would help you to stay in touch 2with style and also make sure that you have everything that you ever wanted. I would so love to get one for myself and there couldn’t be anything better than this to travel on the water if you asked me. EXOCONCEPT’s Erick Sebbanb revealed that they have already taken orders for carbon fibres. It was also featured at the Paris Boat Show and I must say it looks darn chic. It weighs 29 kgs, and you could choose to buy that in 4 different colors.

I would say, there is a certain charm in travelling on the water and that to0o when you are about to get the best deal of what we could get. It is expected to cost $26,792. You could also take a look at the Personal Watercraft we had featured sometime back. There couldn’t be anything better than that if you asked me.

Photokina is on a roll and so are different companies that aren’t letting go the chance to launch their products in the presence of the world media. Though we have discussed about the likes of Pentax, Fujifilm, Panasonic and Sigma and their new photography gadget yet one must not consider Photokina to be the gathering of industry biggies only.
Some of the regular players keep popping in and so is the case with Lensbaby. Tilt transformer from Lensbaby is one product that is doing rounds in Photokina and attracting plenty of attention.
The Lensbaby Tilt Transformer permits its users to permits any Nikkor Lens on a Micro Four Thirds of a Sony NEX mirrorless camera which helps to shoot images that will have the very obvious tilt-lens look with them. This tilt lens effect is usually possible with the help of tilt lenses which are usually pretty costly. Such effects give the image the look of toy scale model.

Solar Vox Ultra – a flower shaped solar charger

Posted by info Sunday, September 11, 2011 0 comments
Solar chargers aren’t anything new, but most of these chargers come with an unattractive and simple design, and if you want a nice looking solar charger, then you should seriously consider the latest Solar Vox Ultra.
Solar Vox Ultra is an improved version of Solar Vox and it is designed by Eric Botzen of Botzen Design. Unlike other solar chargers that only come with a black solar panel, Solar Vox Ultra is designed in shape of a flower and it even comes with petal-like panels. Of course, these panels aren’t here as a decoration, and they are actually being used to reflect the sunlight at the center of a charger. Another thing that makes this charger so special is its small size, so it’s perfect for traveling.

Light Blue Optic projector gets approved

Posted by info 0 comments
Pico Projectors aren’t very popular, but that doesn’t mean that we won’t see more of them in the future. Speaking of projectors, the latest Light Blue Optics projector has arrived at FCC, which means that we might see it in stores someday soon.

What makes Light Blue Optic different is that fact that this projector is using a holographic laser that creates a touchable image on a surface. Light Blue Optic is using a combination of holographic laser projector and infrared sensors to create a virtual WVGA 10.1-inch touchscreen on any flat surface that is able to reflect the image. This projector comes with output of 35 lumens for images and up to 15 lumens for videos. There’s also a built-in mono speaker and a 3.5mm stereo out jack and a composite video input and micro USB connector. In addition, this device comes with integrated 802.11g Wi-Fi chipset and Windows CE as its operating system.

Electric toothbrushes aren’t anything new, but just as other technology they have advanced as well, and now we have a first electric toothbrush that can be recharged via USB, from lightbulbs and toothbrush maker Philips.

Philips has just released a new electric toothbrush called Sonicare Diamond Clean that charges itself via USB and doesn’t rely on any AA or AAA batteries like other electric toothbrushes. This toothbrush comes with a special case that serves as a charging dock, so you can charge your toothbrush on a similar way you recharge your phone or any other device. Of course, if you don’t want to keep your Sonicare Diamond Clean case next to your computer, you can always use standard adapter with regular sockets, so you can recharge your toothbrush in your bathroom or in any other room.

New tech patient monitoring patch sends your vital information to your doctor wirelessly

Posted by info 0 comments
As wireless devices develop and get smaller, we are seeing some interesting achievements when it comes to medicine. Today we have a special monitoring patch for patients, so let’s have a closer look at it.

It is called epidermal electronic system and it has same stiffness, bending rigidity, thickness, and mass density as our very own epidermis. The purpose of this device is to be mechanically invisible to the patient, while sending healthcare related information such as heart rate and temperature to your physician wirelessly. Since this device is being patched to your skin, it is designed so it resembles human skin as much as possible. As for the electronic sensors, they have been embedded in a film that is thinner than a diameter of a human hair, and it is placed on a polyester backing. This means that sensors will stick to your skin at all times, while being extremely flexible as a part of your skin.

iPhone 5 concept by Aatma Studio

iPhone 5 concept
The iPhone 5 has probably seen many renderings and concepts, but we think that this one takes the cake. Created by San Francisco based 3D animation and digital content studio, Aatma Studio, it basically shows off features of a concept iPhone 5, or should we say iPhone 55?
The studio designed a concept of the iPhone 5 which gave the phone features such as an ultra-thin design, much like the current generation iPod Touch, a wider display (which may actually turn out to be true!), and here are the two features we really love – a laser keyboard and a holographic display.
The laser keyboard isn’t too far fetched as there’s a similar laser keyboard that pairs with phones via Bluetooth, but Aatma Studio has taken it one step further by making the keyboard rotational and with the ability to adjust the brightness of the keyboard.
Then there’s the holographic display which allows the iPhone to project a holographic image/video of whatever’s displayed at the moment on the device. This isn’t too far fetched either as there was a patent discovered not too long ago that suggested Apple may be looking into pico projector integration for their iOS devices.

The Apple iPad

Posted by info 0 comments
Tablet computers have been around for quite a while. They are a very specific niche market. The Apple iPad did not exactly break ground with the concept. However, they did break ground by having a massive array of applications readymade to utilize a tablet computer. As well as this, it was also able to handle 3G connections for roaming Internet virtually anywhere you can get a 3G signal (in later models). While it may be cheaper for someone to just buy a notebook – and give you some greater functionality – it may not be as user friendly or accessible for some people.

The Apple iPad has a very specific niche market. You are not required to be technologically savvy in order to use it. In fact, if you have an Apple iPhone or use a similar touch screen enabled phone then the learning curve in learning to use the Apple iPhone will be non-existent. The Apple iPad is a device that is better suited to people who need or want to use mobile computing as well as have the opportunity to use the Internet anywhere without hassle. A good example of how the Apple iPad can be a great mobile computing device is for people who have limited space to carry a notebook while traveling and still want to be connected to their email, various entertainment options and a machine in which they can use to work.

Summer’s coming for those of us living in the Northern Hemisphere, which means it is time to start planning those beach holidays with the rest of your family. Not only that, it would be prudent for you to purchase plenty of sunscreen to go along with those sunny moments, and how about a variety of hats and an umbrella to go along with the setup? We’re not talking about just any umbrella, of course, but rather one that is on offer by Thanko – the Fanbrella. On the bright side, you can also use the Fanbrella during those rainy and wet seasons, save that you need not replace batteries for the fan since you won’t be needing said fan in the first place! LiquidKeyboard concept: First on-screen keyboard that adjusts to your hands

Posted by info 0 comments
You probably know that on-screen keyboards aren’t ergonomical as actual physical keyboards, but in addition to the ergonomical problems, on-screen keyboards are also slower than regular keyboards because you can’t rest your hands on them, and you have to check every key before you press it. Luckily, there’s a solution called LiquidKeyboard.
Christian Sax and Hannes Lau from the University of Technology Sydney have developed a new type of on-screen keyboard called LiquidKeyboard. Unlike other on-screen keyboards, LiquidKeyboard adapts to the position of your hands and fingers, so your hands won’t feel uncomfortable while using it. The best thing about LiquidKeyboard is that all keys adjust to the position of your fingers, so you won’t have to check twice before pressing a certain key, meaning that you could type as fast as you would type on a regular computer keyboard.
LiquidKeyboard is designed for all users that are used to the standard physical keyboard, and if you have a tablet, LiquidKeyboard will be perfect for you. LiquidKeyboard was revealed recently at the Tech23 conference in Sydney, but so far, it’s only a concept, but we can’t wait to see it in action on our tablets.
