Dell’s XPS 15z received a bit of hype earlier this month after it was claimed to be the “slimmest 15-inch notebook in the world” at 0.97 inches. It was the wrong kind of hype though, especially after everyone remembered that Apple’s unibody MacBook Pros have been measuring 0.95 inches since 2008, but whatever. Anyway, it’s still technically the slimmest 15-inch Windows-based notebook around (maybe), so that still counts for something. It’s still a pretty notable notebook, simply because, well, it looks good, with a very decent spec to match. And you can go out and buy it now, depending on where you live.

Clad in an aluminum case that makes it look like the MacBook Pro’s evil twin, the XPS 15z is powered by Intel’s Core i5 and i7 (dual core) processors, a 750GB hard drive, 6GB of RAM, and 2GB GeForce GT 525M graphics. Probably not the highest of the high-end, but it does sport a number of extras to make for a very good deal for the price. The 15.6-inch screen comes with a 1920 x 1080 resolution—awesome for HD gaming and video playback, and it comes with a chiclet-type keyboard with backlit keys to give it a premium touch.

The base model starts out at around $1,399 AUD (US$1,470) for a 2.3GHz Core i5 and 6GB of RAM, while a $1,699 AUD (US$1,780) setup upgrades the system with a 2.7GHz Core i7 and 8GB of RAM.

The laptop was first released in Australia, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Japan, but it’s also expected to be out in European and North American markets as soon as the calendar hits May 24th.
